Part-time Studies

Part-time students attend classes once per week, but may choose to fast track their studies and attend 2 nights per week.

Part-time students take 2 years (or 1 1/2 for accelerated) to complete the requirements of the R.H.N. Diploma program.

Preventive Nutrition

The prevention of degenerative diseases is becoming a major objective for many people. Preventive Nutrition explains how specific diets can retard or reverse the major ailments of our time, including: arthritis, arteriosclerosis, cataracts, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, senility and ulcers. Students will understand the damage of free radicals and the benefits of antioxidants. This course focuses on digestion and elimination. (18 hours)

Starts January 31st, 2009 - Friday evenings 6:30 - 9:30 pm 

Body, Mind, Spirit - The Connection

In the first part of Body, Mind, Spirit course, students will explore every aspect of orthomolecular practice in the pursuit of mental health. In the second part students will discover that physical diseases have related emotional, psychological and/or spiritual links. Students will begin to understand these connections in the context of the anatomy of the human energy system - the anatomy of the individual's spirit. The journey through this course offers an enriched view of life and helps students to identify the patterns of an individual's life and the deep interworkings of body, mind and spirit. (27 hours)

Course runs Fridays starting March 20th to May 22nd 3-6 pm

Allergies

Many physical and psychological problems are related to allergies. This course leads students to understand what allergy is, how it works in the body, and what steps can be taken to remove the condition permanently in a natural way.

Course starts: Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 - 7 - 9:30 pm and runs for 5 consecutive weeks until May 21st, 2009 

Sports Nutrition

This course provides information on health and fitness in a simple and sensible manner, by explaining the benefits of aerobic fitness, proper nutrition, stress reduction and choosing the right exercise shoes. The information on health and fitness is presented in a holistic manner, based on a deep understanding of how the body works in balance.

Course starts: Friday, June 5th, 2009 and runs 4 consecutive weeks until June 26th. 

Supplements and Dosing for Clients Practicum

Students will gain increased understanding of various types of supplements and dosing amounts according to needs of clients. Nutritional supplements and herbs will be the focus.

This practicum is open to questions and suggestions for types of supplements to be covered.

Eco-Nutrition

Eco-Nutrition explores the facts about metal and other elements in food, air and water and their effect on our health. Students gain insight into both the major causes of pollution and the existing threats to both the Earth's and human immune systems. Students learn to make food choices that are wholesome and safe for everyone.  (12 hours)

Classes run Thursday evenings from 7-9:30 pm, starting May 28th, 2009.

In addition to this course, we will also be offering a field trip practicum tour of a local organic farm.  Watch for updates on date & time of this informative and close up look of a local organic working farm.

Alternative/Comparative Diets

Summer Course offering: 

There are elements common to all healthy diets. This course helps students develop a clear understanding of the many types of diets as well as their therapeutic benefits or deficiencies. Students will learn to create diets specific to a client's needs. The course explores the causes of obesity and individual strategies for weight loss.

 Course runs 6 consecutive Thursday evenings starting July 23rd 7-9:30 pm 

Nutritional Literature Research

Summer course offering:

This course teaches students methods of assessing nutritional literature for credibility, accuracy and political biases. Students learn to recognize the special challenges of nutritional scientific research and learn how to understand the structure and referencing of a journal paper.

This course is offered on Saturday, August 8th from 9-4, with 1 hour for a lunch break.
