Tell us about yourself!

Always being career driven and passionate, Chara spent years trying to find her purpose. It wasn’t until she had completed the acting program at VFS, that she started to hone in on nutrition and fitness. At first, it was for her own knowledge but when she realized the impact food had on everything from mood, to sleep, cognitive function and more, Chara knew she had to help spread the word. This drive led Chara to landing the role of Community Manager for the Almost 30 podcast and now launching her own better for you oatmeal, Oat of the Ordinary where she lives every day in her passion and purpose.

Why did you decide to work in this industry?

I’m a people person and I love to give advice (whether it is asked for or not). I also knew I wanted to wake up every morning excited to work. I truly enjoyed every day at CSNN so after just a few days of enrolling, I knew this was what I wanted to do.

What brought you to study holistic nutrition at CSNN?

When I realized the influence food had on your body, mind, energy, and mood. Once I discovered this, I made the bold decision to end my disordered relationship with food and my body and use my knowledge and personal experience to help others do the same.

Was there a particular course at CSNN that motivated you towards your career path?

The whole experience was eye-opening for me. I never really excelled scholastically but attending CSNN where everything I learned I truly cared about and could apply to my every day life, it was a game-changer. I rewrote my story of being a student.

What's your favourite thing about what you do?

I love making clean eating easier for the masses. Seeing a new mom eating Oat of the Ordinary in between feeding her babies, my heart explodes. Or someone’s working full time having our oats at their desk. We’ve made a difference in their day, taking something that can be time consuming (preparing or sourcing a nutritious meal) and making it easy for them.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

After a large glass of warm lemon water, I’ll walk anywhere from 20-60 minutes. Walking is my meditation. It calms me and allows me the time to set my intentions for the day. I also find this is when I come up with my most creative ideas. After a walk, for years I would workout for an hour but as of recently, I’ve started work earlier getting in a 30 minute workout in the evening. This has been incredible for switching up the routine and also listening to what your body needs. Around 5pm I’ll take another 15-20 min walk if my time allows, have dinner around 7 in which I try to shut off from work. This isn’t always but I strive to give myself time to prepare for bed and quiet the mind.

What was your career "a-ha" moment?

My aha moment came when COVID hit. My clients started to drop off and I had always had the idea of taking my oatmeal creation to market but had no idea where to start. I called up my friend Vanessa who had experience in startups and business and we got to work. 10 months later we launched Oat of the Ordinary and haven’t looked back.

Do you have a go-to recipe?

My superfood vegan caesar salad is my go-to! Breakfast is always: Overnight oats
