Public Courses and Workshops

September 1, 2019 - December 31, 2020

We have some new courses and workshops that are open to graduates and the general public. While these would normally take place in our Vancouver classroom, we are offering these virtually until further notice.

Course costs depend on the length of the individual course and workshops are a flat rate of $52.50+Fees. Please note that the required textbooks are not included in the below prices and that students are responsible to acquire the textbook either through the school or externally prior to the course start date.

Refund policy: Corequisites are non refundable, however, upon request may be transferred to another person. Courses are fully refundable minus a $50+GST Admin Fee if requested 30+ days prior to the course start date. If requested between 7-30 days prior to the course start date, courses are 50% refundable. No refunds if requested within 7 days of the course start date.


Motivational Interview Skills | 10.5 hours | $232.50+Fees

Required textbook (not included): Motivational Interviewing in Health Care, by Stephen Rollnick, William Miller & Christopher Butler

This course introduces students to Motivational Interviewing (MI)—an approach to support clients in achieving positive behaviour change when addressing their health challenges. This course presents the background philosophy and components of Motivational Interviewing and outlines techniques to apply the principles when conducting holistic nutritional consultations. The student will be provided with resources and practice opportunities for integrating MI into the practice of holistic nutrition.

Hormone Health | 17.5 hours | $387.50+Fees

Required textbook (not included):  The Hormone Cure, by Dr. Sara Gottfried

The stress of modern-day life has led to an epidemic of hormonal imbalance resulting in crash diets, sleeping pills, and anxiety medication. This course explains why it is not normal to feel fatigued, anxious, fat, and irritable, and the steps needed to reset your hormones to get back to feeling vibrant and joyful.

Sports Nutrition | 12 hours | $265.50+Fees

Required textbook (not included): Complete Guide to Sports Nutrition – 8th edition, by Anita Bean

This course provides scientifically-based, well-researched information on the relationship between nutrition and sports performance. It covers topics such as how food is used for energy, the importance of each macronutrient (carbohydrates, protein, and fat) in fueling an athlete, proper hydration, sports supplements, and ergogenic aids, as well as how to calculate optimal caloric and macronutrient requirements specific to individual athletes and their goals. In addition, recommendations for vegetarian, female, younger, older, and competitive athletes, respectively, will be discussed.

Aging | 10.5 hours | $232.50+Fees

Required textbook (not included): Healthy at 100, by John Robbins and Lifecycles Aging Supplemental Booklet for CSNN Students

This course presents well researched information designed to teach us how to live extended and fulfilling lives. Specifically, it emphasizes 3 tools known to promote longevity and health:
(1) a simple, wholesome diet, (2) a daily exercise routine, and (3) the cultivation of strong, loving personal relationships.

Monday/Wednesday: June 24, 29, July 6

The Mind Connection | 17.5 hours | $387.50+Fees

Required textbook (not included): Nutrition Essentials for Mental Health: a complete guide to the food-mood connection, by Leslie Korn

This course provides comprehensive evidence that nutrition plays a most important role in maintaining optimal mental health and is a major part of the strategy addressing many common mental health problems. Special consideration will be given to the microbiomegut-brain axis and the critical role it plays in brain development, behavior, and mental health throughout life.

Biochemistry & Epigenetics | 21 hours | $464.50+Fees

Required textbook (not included): Science Essentials: Biochemistry to Epigenetics *CSNN published text

This course helps the student to understand the chemical processes that underlie critical biological functions, starting with atomic structure, working through chemical symbols and the periodic table of the elements, and culminating in genetics and epigenetics. It explores the chemistry of living things; the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins; and, the biochemical processes of various functions of the human body, including cellular replication, genetic pre-disposition, and the new science of epigenetics that shows how lifestyle and diet can change genetic expression.

Introduction to the Practical Use of Herbs | 14 hours | $310.00+Fees

Required textbook (not included): The Good Living Guide to Natural and Herbal Remedies, by Katolen Yardley

This general interest course is designed to (1) introduce the therapeutic use of plant medicine; (2) discuss common local medicinal and kitchen, culinary herbs for common health issues, and how herbal medicine can be considered preventative medicine; (3) learn about harvesting, and herbal medicine-making techniques, and the importance of sustainable practices for the health of our planet; (4) explain how to prepare teas and some topical applications for common use.

Wednesday/Saturdays: Jul 22, 25, 29; Aug 1 (2020)


Workshops are 3-hour sessions.

Ayurveda I & II | $52.50+Fees (Each)

Learn the basics of Ayurveda in these two 3 hour corequisites. Leave with a clear understanding of the three Doshas. Learn the disease process (stages and symptoms), the science of the six tastes, and be able to identify Dosha balancing foods.

Learn how to better support your clients who are looking to lose weight with a holistic approach. Develop a better understanding of which body systems to address, and how detoxification can play a role.
