AHN Workshop Descriptions

Laboratory Diagnosis & Tests – Live Virtual Zoom Workshop starting May 22, 2024

Learn from convenient live teacher-led Zoom lectures and interact and engage with everyone in class. We encourage everyone to participate live. In the event of absence, recordings will be provided in case you cannot attend one of the sessions. 

AN109 Laboratory Diagnosis & Tests

This course provides a comprehensive reference to the latest information about clinically relevant laboratory and diagnostic procedures. It explains laboratory and diagnostic tests with relevant information, test descriptions, illustrations, and examples that are useful for a holistic nutrition practitioner. It is a useful tool to prevent diseases, to guide recommendations, and to improve quality of care. 

  • Understand and interpret various laboratory tests
  • Natural medicine testing: description, indications, non-invasive testing
  • Blood/urine tests; endocrine/hormonal testing
  • Miscellaneous tests and electro-diagnostic studies

*Bring in a copy of various lab test results if available to be used for practical discussion when applicable.

Course Fees:

Tuition fee with Materials: $270 + HST +$25 = $330.10

If you register before May 13,  we will waive the registration fee ($50 + HST) and the material cost ($25). If you are a CSNN Alumni Member, you receive 10% discount.

Instructor Bio: Corina Dinca, H.B.Sc., N.D.

Corina obtained her naturopathic medical degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Corina attended the University of Toronto where she attained her Honours BSc. specializing in Human Health and Diseases. 

Having a general family practice allows Corina to further her insights in a wide spectrum of health issues affecting all ages. Her clinical practice has a special focus on digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, and autoimmune illnesses. Corina’s goal is to empower patients with the knowledge and tools to effectively care for their health concerns as well as to increase longevity and decrease the onset and progression of chronic diseases through quality foods and lifestyle. 

Outside of her clinical practice, Corina is a passionate teacher and lecturer. She has delivered numerous information-packed workshops and lectures pertaining to naturopathic medicine, diet and nutrition, stress management, and detoxification to the general public and various corporations. Corina has served as Therapeutic Advisor for one of Canada’s largest and renowned supplement and herb companies. She will be providing information objectively to help you through the maze or fads.

AN101A Immunology | 15 hours

This advanced nutrition workshop takes a more focused and scientific look at the potential for nutrition to enhance and replenish a weakened immune system. Topics of discussion include, amongst others; (1) the interrelationships between the immune system and individual organ systems; (2) age-related changes to the immune system; (3) alkalinizing and detoxification protocols; (4) the principles of psychoneuroimmunology; and (5) dietary protocols used to help control inflammation, build the immune system and help prevent disease. The workshop concludes with an explanation of the specialized cancer treatment program, Gerson Therapy.

AN102 Nutrition & Mental Health (Part 1) - Mood Disorders | 12 hours

This workshop focuses on the intricate connection between nutritional deficiencies and mood disorders. It discusses the link between mood and such things as amino acids, endorphins, neurotransmitters, hypoglycemia, allergies, thyroid function, adrenal function, and genetics. It explains how to differentiate between false moods and true emotions and explores the types of disorders for which “The Mood Cure” is and is not appropriate. The information provided will help students better determine suitable nutritional approaches to take with clients suffering illnesses such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.

AN103 Nutrition & Mental Health (Part 2) Alzheimer's Disease | 9 hours

Mental Health and Nutrition (Part 2) is designed to deepen the student’s knowledge and understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. It explores the symptoms, phases, possible causes and treatments (both conventional and nutritional) of Alzheimer’s. It also examines the behaviours of the affected person and ways to cope effectively with the demands of caring for someone suffering from this disease.

AN108 Nutrition & Athletic Performance | 18 hours

This workshop first reviews how energy metabolism, nutrition, hydration and ergogenics affect athletic performance. To enhance understanding of these fundamental topics, pertinent research articles, case studies and/or practical exercises are included. It then goes on to discuss the athletic nutritional consultation and specific needs of athletes involved in endurance and strength/power sports.

AN109 Laboratory Diagnosis and Tests | 15 hours

This workshop provides a comprehensive reference that offers easy access to the latest information about clinically relevant laboratory and diagnostic procedures. It explains each laboratory and diagnostic test with related information, test descriptions, illustrations and examples. Understanding the purpose of specific diagnostics, and how to interpret their results can validate symptomatology findings and help students to make more informed recommendations to clients.

AN111 Understanding Breast Cancer | 12 hours

This workshop concentrates on helping prevent cancer, specifically breast cancer. The participants will gain an understanding of the basic processes of breast cancer. In addition, there will be detailed information on the effects of foods on the body in order to alkalize the organs and tissues. Other information will include optimal supplementation, as well as the mind/body/spirit aspect of cancer, i.e., how our emotions, thoughts, actions and reactions affect the body on the molecular level. Approaching breast cancer from a position of knowledge, rather than fear, is the guiding principle for this workshop.

AN115 An Advanced Course in Detoxification | 9 hours

Every day people are exposed to thousands of exogenous and endogenous toxins, from pesticides and power lines to the products of our own metabolisms, thoughts and emotions; all of these toxins place dangerous stress on the immune system. This workshop, therefore, helps us to gain a deep understanding of this topic by (1) defining toxicity, detoxification, drainage and the different types of toxins to which we are exposed; (2) reviewing the organs of detoxification; (3) discussing disorders that arise as a result of toxicity; and (4) describing methods that can be used to safely detoxify the body.

AN118 Safe and Effective Supplementation | 12 hours

With increased marketing, variety and availability of supplements, how can health care practitioners (let alone consumers) decide what is safe and effective? Furthermore, how can holistic nutrition professionals effectively counsel their clients about supplementation in a milieu of increasing public awareness? This workshop addresses these concerns by providing students with a sound foundation in the wise use of dietary supplements. It includes information on manufacturing practices, interactions, orthomolecular alternatives to drugs, labeling, governmental regulations, standardization, whole food supplements, etc. Furthermore, it discusses, in detail, some of the most commonly used nutritional supplements such as individual and multivitamins/minerals, fibre, sea algae, greens, digestive enzymes, probiotics, EFAs, etc.

AN119 Mindfulness and the Neuropsychoendocrinology of Regulating Eating | 16 hours

Though there remains a lot that is not known about the regulation of food intake and the science of mindfulness, understanding some of what has been discovered can awaken us to ways we might modify unwanted eating and lifestyle behaviors. Accordingly, this workshop explores what research has revealed about (1) the neuropsychoendocrinology of regulating food intake to maintain optimal energy balance and body weight; (2) the science and effects of mindfulness; and (3) mindful eating practices that can help change unhealthy eating behaviours. To facilitate the embodiment of this information, mindful eating practices are incorporated throughout the workshop: during each lesson and as homework.

AN120 The Quantum Connection to the Spirit | 18 hours

In this course, you will learn about the connections between physical disease and emotional, psychological and/or spiritual themes. Through the lens of quantum physics, and a re-interpretation of the leading methods of alternative medicine, we conclude that at the heart of all illness and recovery is consciousness. This integrative method offers healthcare practitioners a new way of applying their craft with a greater potential for healing, looking forward to a major paradigm shift in medicine. You will learn how to integrate these themes into your nutritional practice and how you can use tools to also evolve your own personal spiritual journey and help your clients with theirs. This course will help you understand how patterns in our life can affect us, not only on an emotional level, but also a physical one, and that recognizing and healing those patterns can lead to better health.
