CSNN Ottawa offers a flexible study formats for the Natural Nutrition Diploma Program as well as a variety of other courses and workshops. Please select an offering below to view schedules, tuition and fees, and registration details: 

CSNN Ottawa offers both full-time and part-time formats. Earn a diploma, professional designation and title with CSNN’s Natural Nutrition Program. The Natural Nutrition Program consists of 18 courses. The curriculum covers natural nutrition relevant to each stage of life, as well as sciences, research and fundamentals of business. It provides a strong foundation for a career in the complementary health industry.

A series of fun workshops that gives you a sneak peek into the world of holistic nutrition and provides you with some holistic nutrition tips for you and your family. No prior knowledge of holistic nutrition is needed.

This Introduction Certificate is comprised of the first 2 courses of the Natural Nutrition Diploma Program. It provides a general understanding to the links and connections between health and nutrition. Successful completion of this certificate may be used to transfer to the full program, provided the student meets the program’s admission policy. 

Intro Course Descriptions

NN101A Fundamentals of Nutrition (Part 1) | 21 hours

The Fundamentals of Nutrition course offers a comprehensive overview of the field of nutrition, which leads to a study and understanding of the link between nutrition and preventive medicine. The course explains the role of macronutrients, vitamins and minerals, and the importance of water in the diet. It describes how certain dietary habits undermine our health and provides suggestions for overcoming these habits. It looks at the effect of pollution on our health and the health of our planet.

NN101B Fundamentals of Nutrition (Part 2) | 15 hours

Through a diet of high nutritional quality, we can support life at every stage. Fundamentals of Nutrition (Part 2) explains the ten key components of a healthy diet and discusses the changing nutritional needs of various age groups during growth and development. Students learn the health benefits of and basic guidelines for fasting and detoxification.

AN118 Safe and Effective Supplementation

Dates: October 19, 26, November 2, 9
Time: Monday evenings, 6:00pm – 9:00pm

This workshop addresses several supplementation topics that will give you the basis to determine whether specific supplement brands are safe and effective. These factors include manufacturing practices, labeling, governmental regulations, and how the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are applied in order to understand how specific vitamins and minerals behave in the body. Safe dosages for specific conditions will be discussed.

This workshop teaches the fundamentals of Ayurvedic nutrition, including individual constitutions, eating according to one’s body type, and eating with the cycles of nature.  Traditional Ayurvedic recipes and menu preparation will be covered in this workshop.

One of the key ingredients in a practitioner/client relationship is effective communication. Therapeutic communication which involves one’s self-awareness gives the practitioner the tools needed to develop productive client relationships.

AN119 Mindfulness and the Neuropsychoendocrinology of Regulating Eating

You advise your clients on optimal foods to eat; however, your client has to make these dietary changes in order to achieve their health goals.   An effective tool for the holistic nutrition professional is to help their client come to the self-realization of the eating behaviours that stand in the way of their success. This workshop teaches mindful practices which lead to self-awareness, plus students will gain a greater understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the brain, the digestive system, and the interrelatedness of the factors that control eating behaviour.

A healthy immune system is integral to one’s organs and health.  As a holistic nutrition professional it is important for you to understand the complexities of the immune system, in order for you to recognize and address the many factors affecting your client’s immune system.

AN115 An Advanced Course in Detoxification

Learn about the complex detoxification processes, pathways and methods, in order to recommend safe and effective detoxification protocols to your clients. Using case studies, gain further insight into which detoxification protocol is best to recommend depending on the client’s health issues.

In order to safely and effectively support the nutritional needs of your client, it is important for you to know how drugs your client has taken or is taking affects cells, tissues and organ systems. This workshop gives you a basic understanding of pharmacology, including but not limited to the metabolism and elimination of drugs, drug interactions, and drug induced toxicity.

These are open to everyone and a fun way to learn new culinary techniques and recipes as it applies to holistic nutrition.
